After a stellar regular season which included a win over Caitlin Clark and Iowa, the Nebraska women’s basketball team, the Big Ten tournament runner-up, returned to the NCAA women’s basketball tournament as a No. 6 seed it was announced on Sunday night.

The Nebraska women’s basketball team was projected as a No. 8 seed in the latest bracketology from ESPN, but it’s a good thing those projections were way off. Nebraska won three games at the Big Ten tournament before blowing an eight-point lead late against Iowa, but the Huskers showed their mettle even in defeat.

Jaz Shelley and Alexis Markowski have been spectacular this season and provided Nebraska women’s basketball with a dangerous one-two punch. Freshman Natalie Potts, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, has been stellar on both ends of the floor, while Logan Nissley also caught fire down the stretch.

The Aggies posted a record of 19-12 on the season. The 11th-seeded Aggies will take on Nebraska basketball in Corvallis, Oregon with the winner of the first-round game between Nebraska women’s basketball and Texas A&M set to take on third-seeded Oregon State or 14th-seeded Eastern Michigan.

It’s ironic that both Nebraska basketball teams will square off against Texas A&M in the first round of the NCAA tournament. This is the first time in a decade that both Nebraska basketball teams have made the big dance.

The Husker women made it back in 2022 but fell to Gonzaga in the first round. Their last win came against Fresno State back in 2014 in the first round.
