Nebraska football is still looking at offensive lineman targets for the 2024 class. One of the bigger ones is looking to schedule an official visit for the fall. 2024 five-star offensive tackle Brandon Baker is looking to schedule a visit for the fall.

Baker is the top offensive tackle in the 2024 class, and the third overall player in his class from the state of California per the 247 Sports rankings. He has a 98 overall numerical rating.

Baker is a priority for several schools. He has 27 offers in total. Right now, it appears as though Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, Miami, and Oregon are the five teams that are ahead in his recruitment. Nebraska officially offered him on September 19, 2022, and there hasn’t been much movement on the Nebraska football front since then. He did take a visit on March 26th, and appears to be in line for another one soon.

Rivals.com’s Adam Gorney indicated that Baker will take a visit to Nebraska. This could be good or bad depending on how the program finishes in 2023. A good season could help Nebraska football gained momentum with Baker. A bad season could take the Huskers out of the Baker sweepstakes.

A commitment could come in August or September for the Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei standout but he’s working on scheduling an official to Nebraska in the fall and if that happens then Baker will push his pledge to December.

Baker would immediately make an impact on the Nebraska offensive line. He is extremely sturdy and all of his movements, and that allows him to gain the upper hand on his man. Baker is extremely quick in his lateral movements, and that allows him to pick up clocks with ease. This is especially noticeable when he is run blocking, and he would fit Nebraska well in that regard.

Currently, the 2024 Nebraska football recruiting class ranks 18th overall in the country per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. A commitment from Baker would make him the highest-rated recruit in the class.

The skepticism about Nebraska football landing Baker is understandable. The Huskers are going up against some high-caliber programs and his recruitment. However, it’s still noteworthy that he wants to take a visit to Lincoln. The timing of it could work out well too, as a scheduled visit, and subsequent late decision could allow Baker to really assess Nebraska. This all hinges on the program’s success this season.

How this recruitment plays out is going to be fascinating. Here’s to hoping Nebraska football can make the most of that campus visit.
