Nebraska Football: 4-star EDGE Jacob Smith taking official visit

2024 four-star edge defender Jacob Smith tweeted on Wednesday that he will have an official visit coming up with Nebraska football very soon. That official visit is scheduled for this Saturday, April 22. This will be during Nebraska football’s spring game.

Smith is the 14^th overall edge defender in the 2024 class, and the third overall player in this class from the state of Connecticut per the 247Sports rankings.

Kentucky and Notre Dame appear to be the top schools on his list at the moment. However, Nebraska football managed to make Smith’s top five, so you never know. This visit on Saturday would be an official visit. This is notable because the schools’ themselves pay for official visits.

What could he bring to Nebraska Football?

Smith would be able to give Nebraska an explosive player on the edge. This is something that they have been looking for the past couple years, and Smith would certainly be able to provide it. He measures in at six-foot-three, 230 pounds. Smith uses a variety of past-rushing moves in order to get to the quarterback. In addition to those moves, he is able to get into the backfield just with pure strength alone.

Smith’s importance in a 3-3-5 defense cannot be overstated, as he would be able to provide that pressure for the defensive line. This in turn would make life easier for the secondary, and give Nebraska that complete defense on all levels.

The fact that he is coming back to Lincoln on Saturday for an official visit is encouraging. He was already on campus this past weekend. He would be able to give Nebraska exactly what they’re looking for, as well as continue to help the program establish ties and Connecticut.  Star power has been able to come to campus. Now, it’s all about sealing the deal with commitments.
