Nebraska football had a pair of 2027 quarterback recruits on campus this week. It started with Trae Taylor, who is ranked just outside the top 100 according to the On3 Industry rankings for the 2027 class.
Taylor is from Illinois. Nebraska football is also among the finalists. The four-star quarterback is also considering Michigan, Illinois, Texas A&M, LSU, Auburn, and Notre Dame.
However, Nebraska football is in a “strong” position according to Rivals’ recruiting expert Adam Gorney. There haven’t been any expert projections, but a decision is expected in June, so there could be some coming soon.
Yet, just days after Taylor left campus, Nebraska football offered another 2027 quarterback, Keegan Croucher. He visited the Huskers this week and posted the offer on X. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound quarterback from Connecticut is ranked 63rd overall in the 2027 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Michigan is also on his radar. However, his recruitment is at a different point. He told Bryan Munson of Husker Online that he was going to visit Nebraka again, likely for a game in the fall, so if the Huskers miss on Taylor, Croucher would be a natural pivot.
The one thing about the Croucher offer is that it likely puts to bed any idea that Taylor is a silent commitment. If that was true, if wouldn’t make sense for the Huskers to offer another 2027 quarterback a day or two later.
It’s good to have a backup plan, though, and with the way Taylor’s recruitment has gone, it’s smart for Nebraska not to have all its eggs in one basket.
Huskers win fifth straight in softball
Nebraska softball stayed within one game of first in the Big Ten standings thanks to a 13-1 trouncing of Purdue in five innings on Saturday.
Nebraska is now 5-1 in the Big Ten and 25-8 overall. Jordy Bahl got the win in the circle, her 14th of the season, after allowing zero runs on two hits in five innings. The offense belted three home runs in the win. Kacie Hoffman was responsible for two of those. Ava Kuszak hit the other. Hoffman went 3-for-3 and had four RBI. Kuszak added two hits, while Olivia DiNardo was 3-for-3 with two RBI.
Nebraska will play Purdue again on Sunday at 5 p.m. CST on the Big Ten Network.
Oregon State evens the series
Nebraska baseball rolled past fifth-ranked Oregon State on Friday night thanks to six strong innings from Will Walsh and a strong night from the offense.
Yet, the Beavers bounced back to take Game two of the three-game set on Saturday by the score of 16-5. Ty Horn fell to 0-4 on the season and got the loss after giving up five runs on six hits. The bullpen wasn’t much better.
Tyler Stone was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in defeat for the Huskers. Cael Frost homered for the third straight game but this one felt over after Oregon State took a 10-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. The Beavers finished with 16 hits. Nebraska finished with 12, yet turned that into just five runs.
Game three is Sunday at 12:02 p.m. CST.
