Nebraska football landed a commitment on Sunday evening from 2024 edge rusher Jaxon Lee.
Lee is not ranked in the 247Sports regular or composite rankings. He did however get a Crystal Ball prediction as recently as Saturday. Steve Wilfong put one in with a medium confidence score of six.
Lee had an offer sheet that included the likes of Georgetown, Memphis, North Texas, and Stephen F. Austin. He was recruited by secondaries coach Evan Cooper, and director of player personnel Omar Hales.
This is a classic case of the coaching staff recruiting a player who is flying a bit under the radar. Lee measures in at six-foot-two, 215 pounds. He is an explosive defensive end, and fires off the edge quickly. He does a good job of firing off the ball, and uses a variety of hand movements to get to the quarterback.
In addition, Lee possesses a good motor. This is particularly helpful when it comes to scrambling quarterbacks. He is very quick with his pursuit, and takes accurate angles in order to make a tackle.
What could he bring to Nebraska football?
Lee is the type of player that will fit well in this 3-3-5 defensive scheme that Tony White has created. White’s defense relies a lot on speed and the ability to be disruptive in the backfield. Lee certainly possesses those capabilities.
On top of this, edge rusher is also a premium position nowadays. Nebraska football was able to get one here in Lee, and a quick one at that.
The only downside to this commitment is that Lee is flying a bit under the radar right now. One of the focuses of the coaching staff is getting under-the-radar players to commit. This comes with a caveat as bigger schools may get recruits to flip once their profile rises.
This is the eighth Texas commitment for Nebraska for the in the 2024 class. Matt Rhule and his coaching staff have made it a point to recruit the state at a high level. Currently, the 2024 recruiting class ranks 26th overall per the 247Sports Team Rankings.
This is a nice get for a Nebraska football. It will be interesting to see what kind of impact Lee will able to make in this defense.
