When you have an elite quarterback, it’s important to build around him and that’s exactly what Nebraska football is trying to do with former five-star Dylan Raiola.
Raiola had a productive first season as the starter for Nebraska football. The Huskers earned a bowl bid after a 6-6 record.
Nebraska could and probably should have won more games but progress isn’t easy. Last season was progress but the expectations are even higher for Raiola in 2025. He threw 12 touchdown passes this season compared to 10 interceptions and averaged 216 yards per game.
After starting as a true freshman, Raiola will be better next season due to more seasoning. The game will slow down for him and Nebraska football fans will see more games like the one against Wisconsin.
Raiola completed 28-of-38 passes for 293 yards and a touchdown pass (zero interceptions) in the win that clinched a bowl game for Nebraska. He’s got all the tools to be great which is why it’s smart for the Huskers to prioritize offensive linemen, tackles in particular, in the transfer portal.
The Huskers are one of the three finalists for 6-foot-8, 309-pound Isaiah World, one of the top tackles in the portal who reportedly has a price tag of $1 million.
Keagan Trost is a 6-foot-4 tackle who played for Wake Forest last season and was also in Lincoln on Wednesday according to Sean Callahan of Husker Online. Trost played 766 snaps last season.
Fa’alili Fa’amoe, one of the top offensive tackles in the transfer portal from Washington State, also visited Nebraska football on Wednesday according to Callahan. Fa’amoe is 6-foot-5, 314 pounds. He’s also a three-year starter at tackle and a former all-conference selection.
It’s good to see Nebraska targeting some of the top offensive tackles in the portal because it’s needed. Bryce Benhart isn’t coming back and they need to upgrade over Gunnar Gottula. If you want to pass the ball, you better be able to pass protect and the Huskers have work to do in that department.
At least they seem to be well aware of it.
