Nebraska football won big on Saturday by a 25-11 margin. However, there is some negative news to report from the victory. The Huskers were banged up from Saturday’s victory, as defensive lineman Cameron Lenhardt and running backs Gabe Ervin and Rahmir Johnson were all injured in Saturday’s contest.

Gabe Ervin in particular had a big hand in Saturday’s victory. He tallied 14 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown.

Johnson and Lenhardt have played key roles throughout the entirety of this season. Lenhardt has come onto the scene as an impactful freshman over the first two games for Nebraska football. He has recorded six tackles and two sacks over the course of two games.

What does this mean for Nebraska football?

The combination of the Ervin and Johnson injuries are a real hit for the running back room. Ervin in particular was really starting to find his groove this season. With that being said, Nebraska football does have depth in the room. Missing the two running backs from the running back room would completely change the dynamic of it. Anthony Grant, who has had fumbling issues, may have to take center stage once again.

It’s not that Grant would be unable to do so. After all, he carried the load last year. He tallied 915 yards and six touchdowns last season. The senior also had seven carries for 46 yards and a touchdown on Saturday night. However, those fumbling issues were a focal point for the coaching staff, so much so that they mentioned it in their preseason camp press conferences.

It is definitely worth monitoring the status of these three over the next couple days. Missing somebody like Lenhardt from the defensive line would undoubtedly be a hit to the Nebraska football pass rush. The situation in the running back room would certainly be interesting, but may give others an opportunity to step up.

The injuries would certainly put Nebraska in a tough spot. They will be worth monitoring over the course of the week, as Nebraska looks to make it two wins in a row.
