Nebraska football is busy recruiting for the 2024 class, and they have been in contact with a Florida athlete. Jacory Barney Jr is interested in the program and he has familiar ties within the Florida area.

Barney is the 41st overall athlete in his class, and the 66th overall player in his class from the state of Florida per the 247Sports Composite rankings. He is a three-star recruit.

His offer sheet holds 18 in total. Georgia Tech, Miami, Michigan, Pittsburgh, and Tennessee are among the schools that have offered him.

Nebraska’s offer is a bit interesting, because he was re-offered by the program on April 25.  Defensive quality control coach Phillip Simpson, wide receivers coach Garret McGuire, and defensive backs coach Evan Cooper have all been making a play to land Barney, per a report from Husker 247’s Will Turboff. Barney was initially offered by the previous staff, with coach Travis Fisher involved in the recruitment.

What could he bring to Nebraska Football?

There are a couple of factors that are really interesting with this recruitment. For one, Barney is from Miami Palmetto. Nebraska football has had recent success from that school, landing Willis McGahee IV in April. It seems as though Simpson is really trying to establish a pipeline there for Nebraska.

Secondly, Barney has tons of athleticism and speed. He can make things happen after the catch, and that allows him to be playmaker. He can catch footballs in tight windows, and is a quarterback’s best friend due to his versatility. Barney is a bit on the smaller side at six-, 160 pounds. Nevertheless, he has the athletic ability to be a dynamic player.

Currently, the 2024 Nebraska football recruiting class ranks 32nd overall nationally per the 247Sports rankings.

Nebraska football would be smart to build a pipeline of Florida, and it will be interesting to see how much they follow up with Barney.
