Make it two transfer portal commitments in two days for Nebraska football. On Christmas Eve, wide receiver Dane Key, a top-10 overall player in the portal committed to the Huskers.

On Christmas Day, the good tidings continued for the Huskers who also landed the commitment of former Idaho cornerback Andrew Marshall. The 6-foot-1 cornerback who was First-Team All-Big Sky is one of the most underrated players in the portal or was.

The decision came down to Miami and Nebraska but the Huskers won out. Marshall isn’t ranked according to 247 Sports and On3 has him rated as the No. 472 transfer. They also have him ranked 59th among cornerbacks.

Yet, the fact that Nebraska and Miami were battling for Marshall, along with some other programs, tells you that he’s viewed in a much better light than those rankings suggest.

Andrew Marshall fills a need with an impact player

Marshall played in the FCS last season but was part of one of the better programs in Idaho. He also got matched up with Evan Stewart against Oregon and held his own. Marshall is long and physical. He’s got 66 tackles and eight pass breakups over the past two seasons.

With Tommi Hill out of eligibility, Nebraska football needed a cornerback from the transfer portal and got one in Marshall who can upgrade both return spots too. He averaged 10 yards per punt return last season for Idaho while averaging 40 yards per kickoff return.

Marshall has two years of eligibility left. He also has a clear path to start opposite of Ceyair Wright. Nebraska football loves bigger defensive backs and Marshall is a definite upgrade at CB2 for the Huskers. He will also add a dynamic element to the return game and I think fans will be surprised by his ability at cornerback.

Just watch the Oregon game if you don’t think Marshall is cut out for the Big Ten. He didn’t seem overmatched at all against Evan Stewart, a former five-star wide receiver and that’s what you can expect from Marshall — a player who I believe will be a starting cornerback in Week 1 for Nebraska football.
