The Nebraska Cornhuskers set a world record for attendance at a women’s sporting event on Volleyball day, plus it’s go time for Nebraska football.
What an incredible day it was on Wednesday for the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team. For the first time ever, Nebraska held a volleyball match inside Lincoln Memorial Stadium and set a world record for attendance at a women’s sporting event with 92,003 fans.
It was incredible. From the tunnel walk to the images and everything in between. It truly showed that there is no place like Nebraska because that kind of event, wouldn’t have happened anywhere but Nebraska.
Kudos to Trev Alberts for making this happen. But also what a great way to celebrate one of the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ greatest traditions — volleyball.
In terms of the match, the Nebraska Cornhuskers rolled, winning their fourth straight to open the season as fourth-ranked Nebraska swept Omaha by the scores of 25-14, 25-14, and 25-13. Andi Jackson led the Huskers with eight kills. Freshman sensation Harper Murray added six. Merritt Beason was solid with eight digs, three kills, and four blocks. Lexi Rodriguez did her part with 15 digs and three aces.
The story wasn’t about the Huskers win. It was about the incredible atmosphere that caught the attention of big names across the sports world such as Magic Johnson.
Joel Klatt, who is a Colorado grad but also a tremendous color guy for Fox Sports, admitted that the Nebraska Cornhuskers have the best fanbase in college sports.
It truly was an incredible night. The Cornhuskers have a stellar team, one that’s capable of winning a national championship and like we always say, there is no place like Nebraska.
Now, onto some football.
Nebraska set for season opener against Minnesota
We’ve got some of our own predictions for Nebraska football vs. Minnesota coming up later today. But it’s gameday for the Huskers and kickoff (8 PM EST) is finally here.
On Wednesday, we broke down some of the keys for the Huskers against Minnesota. One we forgot to mention is that Minnesota was 7-0 last season when it held opposing passers under 60 percent completion percentage, so keep an eye on that number for Jeff Sims tonight.
Here’s all the info you need to watch the game, plus a breakdown of the odds. We predicted Minnesota 23-20 earlier in the week. The guys over at Husker Online are also going with the Gophers as every prediction went Minnesota’s way from the On3 site.
Everyone is expecting a battle though as Sean Callahan, Steve Sipple, and Robin Washut all have the Nebraska Cornhuskers losing by a touchdown or less.
