It’s amazing how quickly a season can change. Just over a week ago, Nebraska basketball was left for dead. Many assumed their hopes of making the NCAA tournament were dashed after a six-game losing streak.
But two wins over quadrant-1 opponents and two wins on the road in the Big Ten have Nebraska basketball right back in the NCAA tournament mix.
Joe Lunardi of ESPN, posted his updated bracketology on social media after the Huskers beat Washington. After being among the “last four teams in” previously, Nebraska basketball got one of the last four byes. The Huskers are still on the bubble but have moved up a solid 10 spots in the field in a week.
According to Bracket Matrix, which tracks all 93 bracketology projections, Nebraska is currently projected in the field in 68/93 brackets. The average seed for Nebraska is an 11. Ohio State, the opponent on Sunday, is also on the bubble, making that another must-win game for the Cornhuskers.
Speaking of the bubble, the Nebraska women’s basketball team (16-7, 7-5) is squarely on the bubble after a 78-60 loss to Michigan at home on Thursday night.
The Nebraska women are projected among the last four byes on the women’s side by ESPN, but that means they are among the last eight teams in the field, just like the men. Alexis Markowski had 21 points and 11 rebounds in the loss. Britt Prince added 10 points, three rebounds, and three assists.
Jordy Bahl leads Nebraska Cornhuskers to softball upset
Nebraska fans have been waiting for the debut of Jordy Bahl. She played in one game last season but suffered a season-ending injury. Yet, on Thursday, in Florida, Bahl led the Nebraska softball team to a 7-1 win over sixth-ranked Tennessee in the season opener.
Bahl was stellar on the mound, allowing just one run and five hits in the complete-game victory. Bahl struck out seven Tennessee hitters and also blasted a two-run home run to help herself out. Samantha Bland went 2-for-3 for Nebraska with a double and two RBI. 19th-ranked Nebraska will take on Southern Miss on Friday at 3 p.m. CST.
Dani Busboom Kelly introduced as head volleyball coach for the Nebraska Cornhuskers
Last but not least, Nebraska officially welcomed new head volleyball coach Dani Busboom Kelly to Lincoln on Thursday.
Busboom Kelly said it was a celebration fit for a queen. She also talked about how it was a dream come true for her to be leading this program. Every current player was there to support the new head coach.
Bergen Reilly talked about how it meant something to the team that DBK played for Nebraska volleyball and understood what it meant. Bekka Allick, Harper Murray, and Andi Jackson all praised the new head coach in a Thursday afternoon press conference too.
In one of her more powerful statements, Busboom Kelly said, “Nebraska is more than an athletics program, more than a volleyball program, it’s a way of life.”
Nebraska found the right head coach and it won’t shock anyone if she’s the next to lead the Cornhuskers to a volleyball national championship.
