Not long ago, Nebraska basketball was one of the coldest teams in college basketball. Now, after four straight wins with three counting as quadrant-1 victories, the Huskers are one of the hottest teams in the sport.
The Cornhuskers are also moving up when it comes to NCAA tournament bracketology. According to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, who posted his update on Tuesday, Nebraska basketball is still on the bubble but trending up.
Nebraska is listed as a No. 10 seed. Lunardi has the Huskers squaring off against Missouri but they are also one of the last four teams with a bye for the first round (avoiding the first four). Essentially, Nebraska is the seventh-to-last team in the tournament.
So there isn’t a ton of margin for error. The good news is that Nebraska basketball has four consecutive quad-1 games coming up: Maryland at home, followed by road games at Penn State and Northwestern, as well as a home game against Michigan, which leads the Big Ten.
If the Huskers split the next four games, they will have seven — yes seven quad-1 victories. Maryland and Michigan are also ranked and a win in either game would set a program record for top-25 wins in a season.
It’s been a wild season for Nebraska men’s basketball but as we head into the most important stretch of the season, the Huskers are playing their best.
One negative, though, as Fred Hoiberg confirmed on Tuesday that Nebraska forward Berke Büyüktuncel, who scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds against Ohio State, will be out for Thursday’s game. Berke turned an ankle on a late rebound after what was arguably his best game of the season.
Just when it felt like Fred found the perfect lineup with Berke at the five, Juwan Gary at the four, along with Brice Williams, Rollie Worster, and Sam Hoiberg, Fred Hoiberg will have to adjust again, although Andrew Morgan seems like the best option.
Nebraska women’s basketball bracketology update
A few weeks ago, the Nebraska women’s basketball team was solidly in the NCAA tournament. However, after losing four of their last five games, the Cornhuskers are firmly on the bubble according to ESPN Bracketology.
Thursday, the Huskers will take on 17th-ranked Maryland on the road. They are 7-6 in the Big Ten and a win over the Terps could go a long way to securing their NCAA tournament berth.
Nebraska baseball announces starting rotation
The Huskers who are ranked No. 24 to start the 2025 season which starts this weekend, announced their starting pitching rotation.
Mason McConnaughey who was Second-Team All-Big Ten last season after a 9-3 record will be the ace and the Friday night starter.
