The Nebraska baseball team is on an incredible run and has the Huskers one win from the 2024 Big Ten baseball tournament championship.

After dropping the first game 15-2 to Ohio State, the Huskers had their backs against the wall. Nebraska baseball rallied with a 6-2 win over Purdue. Then, they knocked out the Buckeyes, getting their revenge with a 12-5 win on Friday, before knocking off Indiana twice on Saturday to reach the Big Ten championship game.

The pitching has been incredible. Will Walsh, a spot starter, tossed a complete game in the first matchup with Indiana on Saturday, which considering that the Huskers will have to win five games in a row to win the Big Ten championship, was huge.

Josh Caron also stepped up in a huge way. Indiana grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first elimination game for the Huskers, but Caron homered twice and drove in all four runs, while Walsh limited the Hoosiers to two runs on just six hits, while striking out five.

With momentum on their side, Nebraska baseball steamrolled Indiana in game two. It felt inevitable. Joshua Overbeek got the Huskers on the board with a three-run double. Gabe Swansen blasted not one, but two home runs, while Josh Caron hit his fourth bomb of the tournament, which tied a Big Ten tourney record.

Drew Christo was solid in the start, going five innings and allowing just one run on five hits. The bullpen allowed three runs but two came in the top of the ninth when the Hoosiers were down 10-2. Nebraska baseball went on to win 10-4.

The Huskers are now in the winner-take-all Big Ten championship game. Penn State will be the opponent. The eighth-seeded Nittany Lions haven’t lost yet in the tournament. They beat Michigan twice, as well as top-seeded Illinois in the first round.

It’s not clear who will pitch but it will be interesting to see if Brett Sears is available to go or Jackson Brockett, who was shelled in game one against OSU. Either way, a huge opportunity awaits Nebraska baseball on Sunday at 10 am CST on the Big Ten Network.
