Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule joined The Joel Klatt Show this week for “Big Noon Conversations” and there were a number of topics covered.

However, Rhule spoke a ton about the future of the program. Joel Klatt was talking about the Nebraska football fans and how insane Lincoln Memorial Stadium will be once the Huskers are back in the College Football Playoff race.

Rhule responded, “That will happen. It’s just a matter of when.”

The head man also talked about how Nebraska football fans deserve a winner after all of the punishment they have endured in recent seasons.

“They deserve it. We were 3-9 and they have shown up. When we were 4-8. This year, we were 0-2, and the inspiration you felt from that crowd for a Northern Illinois game. They were there for the whole warmup and we were like man, we better put together a good team. All these kids running around the stadium, the best part of the game can’t be meeting the players. It’s gotta be championship-caliber football.”

Rhule also talked about how depth is going to be a strength for Nebraska football this season, thanks to the return of 19 starters, including a bunch of players like Nash Hutmacher, Ty Robinson, Isaac Gifford, Ben Scott, and Bryce Benhart when they could have declared for the NFL draft.

“That’s why I think we can win this year, because of that experience. Then, the young players are going to be experienced in the following years and that’s how you build something that can eventually, hopefully, take that jump into the College Football Playoff.”
