It feels like ‘Groundhog Day’ for Nebraska basketball

Nebraska basketball got destroyed on the road once again on Sunday and it’s starting to feel like ‘Groundhog day’.

Nebraska basketball suffered another blowout loss on Sunday against the Wisconsin Badgers. Wisconsin is ranked 18th and boasts one of the best offenses in college basketball.

However, the fact that the Huskers surrendered 17 3-pointers and lost by 28 points was disheartening. The Huskers opened the day as one of the “last four teams out” according to the latest bracketology projections from ESPN.

A win against Wisconsin could have turned the season around or at least been the start of saving it. Instead, even with a different starting lineup, the Badgers scored 17 of the first 19 points.

Essentially, just like the Purdue game, it was over before it started.

It makes you wonder how ESPN could have Nebraska basketball among the last four teams out. How could this team even be in NCAA consideration? That’s how good they were before it all fell apart.

What makes it even worse is that every game feels the same. At least on the road. Nebraska’s defense is terrible, allows a ton of open 3-pointers, and the opponents make them.

This is the third time during this six-game losing streak that Nebraska has allowed 15 3-pointers or more in a game. That’s as unacceptable as it is unfathomable.

Brice Williams was the only Husker to score in double figures with 11. Williams and Juwan Gary combined to shoot 6-of-24 from the field. Nebraska made 10 3-pointers but shot 34 percent on 2-point attempts.

One bad performance would be excusable if it didn’t feel like “Groundhog Day” — that movie with Bill Murray where he’s stuck re-living the same day. That’s what it feels like watching Nebraska basketball.

Considering where this program was one month ago, the fall has been shocking.

Nebraska women’s basketball falls to Ohio State

The Nebraska women’s basketball team had a chance for a defining win against Ohio State and led the Buckeyes at the half, 38-36 before a 25-point third quarter for OSU doomed the Huskers.

Taylor Thierry connected on a clutch 3-pointer late for the Buckeyes who won 72-66 at the Vault. Alexis Markowski delivered a strong performance in defeat with 18 points and six rebounds. Callin Hake finished with 11, while Britt Prince finished with eight points, eight rebounds, and three assists. She was 0-for-6 from 3-point range.

The loss ended a five-game winning streak for Nebraska (15-5, 6-3). However, the Huskers entered the weekend projected as a No. 8 seed in the women’s NCAA tournament by ESPN and this loss shouldn’t hurt the resume at all.
