Nebraska football is on a roll on the recruiting trail right now and Carter Nelson could be the next big get.
You can feel the momentum building with the 2024 Nebraska football recruiting class. You can also feel the Huskers starting to close in on a commitment from Carter Nelson.
After seeing Dae’vonn Hall and Isaiah McMorris commit to Nebraska football, Nelson is taking his official visit to see the Huskers along with Hall, McMorris, and Daniel Kaelin. Yes, the same quarterback he attended a College World Series game with a few days ago.
Nelson has visited some other big-name programs this month. First, it was Georiga. Then, Penn State and Notre Dame. However, Nebraska got the last visit and outside of two expert projections for the Bulldogs, there hasn’t been a big run of projections for Nelson.
His recruitment has been hard to read. I wouldn’t be shocked at all if he was leaning toward Georgia after his visit. But that was three weeks ago now. A lot has changed with the Huskers and if you look at Nelson’s Twitter activity, he’s been re-tweeting lots of things with Hall, McMorris, and Kaelin.
That could be something. It could also mean nothing. However, multiple staff members are tweeting positive things, although it’s hard to know if it’s about Nelson. Yet, some other notable Nebraska accounts that tend to have inside info have been posting hints too.
Even current players on the roster are dropping hints about a tight end commitment.
Two Nebraska crystal balls for Carter Nelson
Beyond reading the Twitter tea leaves, two Nebraska football recruiting experts from 247 Sports — Mike Schaefer and Michael Bruntz — have both put in crystal balls for the Huskers. Greg Smith who had flipped his pick to Georgia, changed it back to Nebraska football.
You can definitely feel the in-state momentum building and if Nelson committed, the Huskers would have the top four players in the state pledged in the 2024 class.
Caleb Pyfrom is also in the mix and Nebraska is the crystal ball leader. Landing the top five in-state recruits in class, especially one this talented, would be an incredible achievement.
About a month ago, it didn’t even seem possible. Now as the final official visit weekend is coming to a close tomorrow, there is tangible momentum for the Huskers with Nelson.
We have talked about how it’s time for Nebraska fooball to close with the top-100 overall recruit in the 2024 class and No. 1 player in the state. Maybe Matt Rhule and the coaching staff actually did it.
Things seem to be trending that way at the very least.
