An interesting update for Nebraska football and WR Cortez Mills

According to a report, Cortez Mills won’t be committing to a program in the South, which is good news for Nebraska football.

There are a lot of different reports in recruiting. So you never know what to believe but an account, Polkway, posted that Nebraska football target Cortez Mills, “Will not be playing college football in the South.”

“That means FLORIDA – SOUTH CAROLINA – NOWHERE. It looks very Midwesttyy.”

I’m not sure how good all of that intel is, however, Mills, who is ranked 84th overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2025 class, canceled his official visit to Miami. Mills has taken official visits to Florida, Clemson, Oklahoma, and Nebraska.

That’s why there was a mention about Mills not committing to a program from South Carolina. The most recent visit was to Oklahoma and this could mean that the Sooners have become the favorite.

The Midwest could mean Oklahoma or Nebraska. Mills visited Nebraska during the spring game. So it has been a couple of months and it’s hard to feel like the Huskers have any real momentum in this recruitment. I also have learned not to count out head coach Matt Rhule.

It felt like the Huskers were dead in the water last week with Dawson Merritt before a phone call by Rhule at least got Nebraska football back in the mix. Oklahoma would be an interesting fit. The Sooners are a top-notch program and will be playing in the SEC, which is something Miami can’t offer.

The Huskers also have Dylan Raiola and after watching the spring game, you’d have to think Mills would want to play in that kind of offense. Maybe he sees OU as a better fit. That’s my guess, but if it’s a Midwest team — it’s Nebraska and Oklahoma and like I said, don’t count out Matt Rhule.
