An incredible feat for Nebraska football player Nash Hutmacher

The wrestling career of Nebraska football player Nash Hutmacher will continue for another tournament as the heavyweight wrestler advanced to the NCAA national tournament.

Seeded 10th in his weight class, Hutmacher, a dominant defensive tackle for the Nebraska football team and former high school state wrestling champion, dropped his opening match at the Big Ten tournament, which meant he had to win three in a row to make the NCAA national tournament.

After a bye in the first round of consolation, facing two wrestlers seeded higher, Hutmacher delivered consecutive wins by a combined score of 16-1. He advanced to the consolation semifinals, meaning he can’t finish worse than sixth. As a Nebraska football player, Hutmacher was around 330 pounds but dropped down to 285 and has been incredible on the mat for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Hutmacher defeated Bennett Tabor 9-1 in the second round of consolation before notching a 7-0 win over Seth Nevills of Maryland (consolation quarterfinals) securing Nash a berth in the NCAA tournament. He will square off against third-seeded Lucas Davison of Michigan for a shot at third-place.

Nebraska wrestling in third, Ridge Lovett advances to Big Ten finals

The Nebraska wrestling team is sitting in third place after two days at the Big Ten wrestling tournament. That means a team title is out of reach for the Huskers, but Ridge Lovett who is ranked No. 1 at 149 pounds, scored a 4-0 decision against Tyler Kasak to reach the finals. He will square off against second-seeded Autin Gomez of Michigan for a Big Ten championship.

Third-ranked Nebraska has six wrestlers in the finals or consolation semifinals, which has them in third with 83 points. Penn State, ranked No. 1 overall in college wrestling, leads with 136 points. Michigan State is second with 105.5 points.  Nebraska is in third with 89 just a half-point better than Iowa at 88.5.
