You have to be impressed with the 2024 Nebraska football recruiting class. Just based on what we have seen through the spring and fall camp, it looks like the Huskers hit a home run.
That goes beyond Dylan Raiola too. Yes, the five-star quarterback and starter for Nebraska football (my words) will be the most impactful freshman in this class, but there are plenty of others.
Keona Davis has been turning heads. So has Carter Nelson, now playing wide receiver. Jacory Barney and Vincent Shavers are two others who will get on the field this fall, plus we’ve heard plenty of good things about offensive linemen such as Grant Brix, Gibson Pyle, and Preston Taumua.
However, another Nebraska football freshman has been picking up steam recently and that’s Amare Sanders. This isn’t the first time coaches and players have talked up Sanders, the freshman from Florida.
Amare Sanders is “showing out” for Nebraska football
When defensive coordinator Tony White was asked by the Big Ten Network about defensive backs this week, Sanders name came up, unprompted.
“You’ve got Amare Sanders, who’s showing out right now,” White said via Husker Online.
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound freshman has been mentioned a few times during fall camp, and linebacker John Bullock also talked about him saying, “I could say a lot of guys on defense. You’ve got Amare Sanders, who’s stepping up really big.”
That’s important for Nebraska football because with Byle Hill out with an injury, although he’s practicing, and Jeremiah Charles also banged up, cornerback depth is an issue.
Former USC transfer Ceyair Wright, who started 17 games for the Trojans, was also mentioned by Tony White and it appeared as though he was getting reps with the No. 1 defense.
Wright was a top-100 cornerback coming out of high school. Sanders wasn’t ranked that highly but really good players fall through the cracks all the time in Florida and it feels like the Huskers found one in Sanders.
