Welcome to Husker Big Red Daily, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.

Nebraska football fall camp started on Wednesday morning. The Huskers hit the practice field about 30 days ahead of their first game of the 2026 season.

However, the topic of conversation online was much more centered on the recruiting trail, even in the month of August, as some new reporting on the Ahmad Hudson recruitment came to light.

Tim Verghese of Inside Nebraska interviewed the five-star tight end from Ruston, Louisiana, recently, and that interview makes it feel like Nebraska football has a great shot at stealing away the elite tight end from the LSU Tigers.

Hudson even went as far as to say that Nebraska was doing a better job of recruiting him than LSU. It remains to be seen if the Tigers step up their efforts. Maybe it’s just a negotiating ploy. That’s how some fans see it. However, it feels like Hudson has a genuine interest.

“The program you wouldn’t expect to be doing their job to try and get me to come there is doing what they need to do. The program you most expect it from is not doing what they need to do,” Hudson said.

Nebraska football is expected to get him on campus for a game this fall. He said he would like to come for the Indiana game and maybe another, which is another positive sign. Matt Rhule also dropped a hint about a top-10 class earlier this week.

None of this means that a flip is a slam dunk. Far from it. Lane Kiffin is one of the best recruiters in college football, and he’s not going to let a freakish talent like Hudson leave the state of Louisiana without a fight.

However, if Hudson flipping to Nebraska felt like a long shot, it certainly doesn’t feel that way anymore.

Matt Rhule talks day one of fall camp

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule spoke with the Huskers Radio Network after practice on Wednesday. Rhule didn’t say much. He did say it was important not to “waste a day” when you only have 30 practices before the first game.

Rhule mentioned that the team is working hard, just as they had all offseason, but what else would you expect a coach to say? When asked about the defense, the Nebraska football head coach said it wasn’t even a “new defense” anymore. The team has adjusted, and he feels very confident in Rob Aurich.

“Rob has done a great job of adapting his system to what he’s going to see in the Big Ten and things that we feel like highlight our players,” Rhule said. “So now is the time to take what they have learned, and they know it really well, and just perfect it as best we can.”

Blue-chip WR will visit Nebraska football

Carter St. Junious, a four-star wideout who is 6-foot-3, 185 pounds out of Texas, is expected to take a Gameday visit to Nebraska this fall, according to Inside Nebraska. Ranked No. 147 overall in the 2028 class, via the 247 Sports composite rankings, Tim Verghese reports that the Huskers “are surging” in this recruitment.

Texas, LSU, and Arizona State are the other top contenders. His father is an assistant basketball coach for LSU and also played for the Tigers. That could give LSU an in, but Nebraska is in a solid spot heading into a fall visit for the 2028 blue-chip target.
