Nebraska football has moved to the top of the recruitment of top-100 wideout Khalil Taylor. The question is, can the Huskers stay there until July 6th?

The four-star wide receiver is 5-foot-11, 190 pounds. He’s ranked No. 82 overall in the 2027 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, out of the state of Pennsylvania.

Penn State was the favorite going into the final official visit weekend, when Nebraska football seized the momentum. Trae Taylor is certainly playing a role. It also didn’t hurt that Matthew Gregory committed to UCLA. That opened the door again after Taylor previously canceled his visit, then canceled a visit to Alabama to come to Lincoln.

Taylor told Steve Wiltfong of Rivals that he is considering Nebraska, Penn State, Alabama, and Colorado. The Nittany Lions felt like the biggest threat, but according to the latest report from Wiltfong, the Buffaloes might be the biggest concern.

Colorado could be biggest threat in recruitment of Khalil Taylor

Taylor will announce his commitment live on the Rivals YouTube Channel on July 6th. When he started trending with expert projections, I wondered if he would commit sooner than that. Obviously, that’s not happening. That leaves essentially 10 days to close out this commitment.

That’s an eternity in recruiting. Programs are battling hard for commitments right now. Over 200 of the top 250 ranked recruits have already committed, so this is going to be a battle. Taylor hinted that Colorado made a move, telling Wiltfong they did something “crazy.”

It’s hard to know what that means, but it’s hard to see Colorado beating out Nebraska here. Even Penn State. The Huskers have Trae Taylor. Those other programs don’t, and it feels like that will put the Huskers over the top.

Anything can happen in recruiting, though, as we saw with Notre Dame pulling the upset and landing Albert Simien after Texas A&M leading for months. Nebraska should take notice, and hopefully, Matt Rhule can close.
