Welcome to Husker Big Red Daily, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.
The Huskers are favored to beat the Huskies. We broke down that matchup in more depth on Tuesday. We don’t know who Washington will have as its starting quarterback, but either way, it will be a big test for the pass defense.
Nebraska football is still technically alive in the College Football Playoff race. Any Power 4 team with only two losses can say that, though. The Huskers need to win out. That doesn’t seem likely, though, with Ohio State and Iowa still on the schedule.
In terms of the bowl projections, it seems like most analysts have the Huskers winning between eight and nine games. They are projected mostly to go to the ReliaQuest Bowl and the Music City Bowl, with three projections each. The Pinstripe Bowl has one projection, but that would likely mean just six or seven wins.
Overall, the ReliaQuest Bowl would take at least eight wins, maybe nine. That would be a solid step in the right direction, although it won’t make people forget about nearly beating Indiana.
Here are the Nebraska bowl projections after Week 8.

Troy Dannen sees progress in the Nebraska football program
Nebraska football fans don’t all see it this way, but athletic director Troy Dannen was on Huskers Nightly and talked about the progress that has been made under Matt Rhule.
“I think Matt’s got the program moving in the right way. Making sure we resource the program in every way that we can resource the program to compete for championships,” Dannen said. “I think we’re in a great place this year. We’re going to be in a better place next year. So I like where the program is at. I’ve been thrilled to see how the defense plays. We don’t miss tackles. We fly around.”
