The departure of Josh Martin was a bit of a surprise for Nebraska football fans. There was some thought that he would take over as the Huskers’ special teams coach.

Yet, Matt Rhule had other ideas. The head coach hired Brett Maher, the former Big Ten Punter and Kicker of the Year, to be the new special teams coordinator for Nebraska football according to Husker Online.

Maher has been on the staff since the 2024 season. Last season, he was an assistant to Ekeler, working with the kickers and punters. He will be assisted by Nick Humphrey, who was named as the co-special teams coordinator.

Humphrey is a former Tennessee linebacker who just finished playing in 2022. He spent two seasons with Ekeler on the staff in Tennessee before coming to the Huskers as a special teams analyst.

Rhule is hoping these coaches can implement what Ekeler did last season. There will be continuity, but each coach will be a first-time coordinator.

A Signing Day Commitment?

6-foot-2, 330-pound defensive tackle Dylan Berymon is expected to announce his commitment at a 10:30 AM signing ceremony on Wednesday. I’m assuming that’s Eastern time. Berymon has been projected by 247 Sports and Rivals to land with Nebraska football.

The Huskers and Kentucky are the top contenders. Florida was in the mix over the weekend and tried to get Berymon on campus for a visit, but it was cancelled.

The 330-pounder is ranked No. 224 overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2026 class. He would be the Huskers’ third-highest commitment.

Speaking of Rankings, Nebraska signee Danny Odem moved up to the No. 1 cornerback spot in 247 Sports’ final rankings update for the 2026 class. Odem is ranked 50th overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings.
