Multiple Huskers hit transfer portal leaving QB room thin

Nebraska football was going to need to add at least one quarterback from the transfer portal, but after Monday’s news, the Huskers will need at least two.

Marcos Davila, who was added to the roster in the transfer portal last offseason, seemed to see the writing on the wall in terms of playing time, because it was reported that he will be entering the transfer portal after just one season with the Huskers. He saw action in two games.

The former quarterback was part of the 2024 class, ranked as a three-star (402 overall). Davila redshirted with Purdue before he transferred to Nebraska football.

Davila wasn’t the only Husker player to enter the portal in the past 24 hours. Maverick Noonan, Tristan Alvano, and Roger Gradney have also announced their intentions to enter the portal.

Huskers need multiple transfer QBs now

None of those guys played big roles last season. Davila didn’t either as the No. 3 or No. 4 quarterback this season. Yet, it does take away what could have been a valuable backup in the quarterback room.

As it stands, after the bowl game, TJ Lateef will be the only scholarship quarterback on the roster. That means Nebraska football will need to add at least two transfer portal quarterbacks this offseason.

They might even look to the FCS ranks or the NAIA again to bring a veteran. The Huskers need someone who can push Lateef for the job — someone such as Aidan Chiles or Kenny Minchey. But they need another arm, too.

Beyond that, they need a No. 3 quarterback as the quarterback room suddenly needs to be rebuilt overnight.
