You can always tell how much a program values a recruit by the number of resources invested in that recruit. As far as Valdin Sone is concerned, Nebraska football has invested a lot.

Four teams are in the running for the 6-foot-4, 320-pound defensive tackle, who is ranked No. 150 overall in the 2026 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Out of Dyke, Virginia, Sone got a recent update to his overall ranking, moving up 33 spots in the composite rankings. There still aren’t any crystal ball projections, but the buzz for Sone points to Georgia. Florida is another team in the mix, while it feels like Nebraska is probably third.

Is there any hope for Nebraska football?

Either way, Nebraska isn’t the top team. Auburn doesn’t seem like it has a shot. Sone did release a top four ahead of his commitment, and the Tigers were included, but they haven’t been talked about much.

Nebraska is still trying to land Sone. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Huskers were offering more NIL money, but Georgia has an incredible history of developing guys like Sone into first-round picks.

What’s interesting is that Tim Verghese of Rivals and others have reported that this recruitment won’t be over on July 18th, regardless of who gets the commitment.

There is talk about a visit to Lincoln for a game in the fall. If Nebraska can put together a 9-10 win season, it could help, especially for a guy like Sone. It will still be very difficult to flip him from Georgia or Florida, but whatever happens Friday, it probably won’t be the last time Sone is talked about.
