One of the top targets for Nebraska football in the 2026 recruiting class will be coming off the board this week.

That’s Valdin Sone, a 6-foot-4, 320-pound defensive back ranked No. 183 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2026 class.

Brandon Collier, a close advisor of Sone, who is from Sweden, has posted twice this week that a decision is coming soon. He posted on Monday on X that Sone will announce a commitment this week from Sweden.

Sone would fill a huge need along the defensive front. Florida, Georgia, and Auburn are the other contenders. Florida leads according to the On3/Rivals prediction machine. However, Georgia has plenty of buzz. It feels like it will be one of those SEC teams; however, you can never say never in recruiting.

A new 300-pounder on the radar for Nebraska football, plus flip watch

Viliami Moala, a 6-foot-3, 340-pound defensive tackle from Alabaster, Alabama, who is ranked No. 452 in the 2026 class, just decommitted from Oregon. Nebraska was one of six programs to reach out; however, Brian Dohn of 247 Sports wrote that North Carolina is in a “strong” position.

It feels like Nebraska could miss on a nose tackle type again in 2026. Another name could emerge on the radar, but it will be interesting to see if Nebraska throws the kitchen sink (in terms of NIL) at Sone.

Nebraska has just 12 commitments total. Three of them are blue-chips (247 composite rankings), so there is work to do. The Huskers are putting in the effort, working to flip linebacker Jordan Campbell, who is currently committed to Miami.

Campbell will visit Nebraska football this fall. Kamron Wilson, the Syracuse EDGE commitment, is another who could visit this fall, along with Tedarius Hughes, who told Rivals that Nebraska and Colorado were both trying to flip him. He’s currently committed to Florida State.
