Nebraska football lost its only blue-chip commitment in the 2026 class last week, when CJ Bronaugh flipped from the Huskers to Florida.

That was a huge loss for Nebraska. However, the coaching staff made up for it on Monday, landing 6-foot-2, 180-pound cornerback Danny Odem, who is ranked No. 198 overall in the 2026 class, according to the On3 Industry rankings.

Odem just visited Nebraska this past weekend. Clemson, Oklahoma, Ohio State, and Penn State were the other finalists. Here are three thoughts on his commitment.

Flobraska is alive and well

Nebraska replaced one Florida cornerback with another in the 2026 class. Odem is a playmaker who notched five interceptions and eight pass breakups over the past two seasons.

It’s not clear how fast Odem runs in the 100-meter dash. He’s probably not as fast as Bronaugh, but he “tested favorably” according to his 247 Sports profile. Odem is an excellent man-to-man corner with ball skills and is a young player for his class.

The upside is real, and Odem is just scratching the surface.

Huskers close again

Matt Rhule is a damn good closer. Odem was on campus this weekend, and despite not being the favorite, Nebraska was able to win out over some other elite programs.

6-foot-2 man-coverage corners are rare. Odem is a willing run defender and is someone who has the potential to outplay his ranking, even though he’s highly touted.

Maybe it was the tractor, but secondary coach John Butler surely helped, too. Nebraska feels like it’s about to become a defensive back factory in terms of NFL prospects, and that had to appeal to Odem.

The 2026 class is trending up

This is the second commitment in a few days for Nebraska football, and the day isn’t done. Jamal Rule, a three-star running back, is expected to commit on Monday, too.

Luke Sorensen, a three-star tight end with an impressive offer sheet, pledged on Saturday, plus it feels like more commitments — not just Rule — are on the way.

The Huskers have seven commitments now. It wouldn’t be shocking if they had 10 by the end of June.
