Nebraska football landed its sixth commitment of the 2026 class on Friday night, thanks to the pledge of three-star tight end Luke Sorensen out of Servite, California.
Sorensen is ranked No. 683 overall in the 2026 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s 6-foot-4, 250 pounds. Penn State was considered the favorite before the official visits started.
Nebraska hosted Sorensen earlier in June. They have been viewed as the leader ever since. Now, the commitment is locked in, and here are three thoughts.
A solid recruiting win
Beating Penn State and Ole Miss out for any recruit is a win. This filled a huge need for Nebraska since Isaac Jensen came off the board. There aren’t any other names on the board either.
Part of the reason for that is that Nebraska probably locked down Sorensen weeks ago. The crystal ball trend hasn’t changed. Beyond the final three, other teams like Wisconsin, Alabama, Florida, Auburn, Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Oregon State, Texas, UCLA, Texas A&M, USC, and others have offered.
That’s a who’s who of major college football programs. There are a few big names that didn’t offer, but not many. Rivals has Sorensen ranked as a four-star recruit, and you can see why.
What Nebraska football is getting
In short, the Huskers are getting one of the best in-line blockers in the 2026 recruiting class among tight ends. Sorensen has upside as a receiver, but caught just 15 passes for 183 yards as a junior.
There’s no doubt that if you watch Sorensen, he flashes plenty of pass-catching ability. However, the former offensive tackle turned tight end is one of the best blockers in this class.
That’s important. Nebraska might not use fullbacks anymore, but blocking tight ends are essentially the same thing. Sorensen brings versatility and will find his way on the field one way or another.
Getting momentum back
This recruitment was important because the Huskers needed some momentum. Losing CJ Bronaugh was a blow. This doesn’t make up for that. Some fans will also roll their eyes at the announcement of another three-star, but as we have covered, there’s a ton to like about Sorensen. He’s even taken part in MMA in the past, plus basketball, baseball, and water polo.
This is hopefully just the start of a run of commitments. Jamal Rule is on the clock. Darion Jones will decide soon, and there’s still a chance Nebraska adds a few more commitments before the end of the month.
