The defensive back room of Nebraska football took another hit before the start of summer workouts as the updated roster heading into the fall no longer has Ethan Nation listed.

It’s hard to know what happened with Nation but it seems that he’s no longer a Nebraska football player. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound defensive back was making a name for himself this spring and had an interception during the spring game. He also had a few highlight-reel plays and felt like someone who was emerging in the secondary.

What Nebraska secondary looks like without Ethan Nation

The rising sophomore was expected to compete for playing time at cornerback and after the injury to Blye Hill during the spring, the depth would have been nice to have.

But for whatever reason, Nation will play somewhere else. For Nebraska, it’s another player that won’t be available to start the season along with Hill. Malcolm Hartzog is able to play cornerback and last season played a hybrid safety/cornerback role.

That’s where I prefer to have him. Yet, you need someone to replace Quinton Newsome across from Tommi Hill. Jeremiah Charles is a name to watch. He’s got all the tools and if he can put it together, I wouldn’t be shocked if he was a top-three cornerback for the Huskers.

Blye Hill avoided a season-ending injury and should return this fall according to Matt Rhule. The Nebraska football head coach didn’t indicate when though. That makes the loss of Nation hurt even worse. He’s a player I was excited about but, the Huskers should have enough depth to get along with without him.
