Nebraska football was expected to land a fourth wide receiver from the transfer portal. But now, that same wide receiver, Jonah Wilson has signed with Texas A&M.
This is according to Pete Nakos of On3.com. Nakos reported that on Tuesday night, which was a lot different from the reporting of Sean Callahan of Husker Online on Monday.
Callahan reported that Wilson was going to sign with Nebraska football as a walk-on originally before joining as a scholarship player. Now that’s out the window as the former four-star recruit has signed with the Aggies.
Wilson was ranked No. 293 overall in the 2023 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He had nine receptions last season for 58 yards and was recruited by Dana Holgorsen to Houston. He was actually a Texas commitment at one time before he flipped.
Losing Wilson might not have a huge impact on the depth chart next season. Dane Key, Jacory Barney, Nyziah Hunter, Hardley Gilmore, Cortez Mills, and Isaiah Mozee give the Huskers more than enough to work with. However, another talented player with size and three years of eligibility would have been nice and clearly, the talent is there if he’s headed to the SEC.
But, if he was having to join Nebraska football as a walk-on, it makes sense for him to go to another school if he gets a chance. Things also change quickly in the transfer portal and in another transfer portal recruitment, an SEC school (Kentucky) isn’t going away either.
Latest on another Nebraska football transfer portal target
Shiyazh Pete is a 6-foot-8, 320-pound left tackle and Nakos reported that Nebraska football was a top contender along with Michigan for his commitment. The Huskers added Elijah Pritchett, but another tackle would be ideal and Pete has played over 1,700 snaps in his career. He was also all-conference in 2023 for New Mexico State.
Yet, Steve Sipple reported on Tuesday night that Kentucky “isn’t going away.” The Wildcats are tough to combat. They have NIL money and are aggressive. So it feels like anyone’s ballgame at this point.
