Nebraska football fans are still basking in the glow of the win over UTEP. However, the focus has also shifted to Colorado, an arch-rival who will come to Lincoln on Saturday night.
The last time Nebraska football had a game like this at home was probably Miami. This is more of a true rivalry though. The Buffaloes and Huskers hated each other in the 80s and 90s. Nebraska-Oklahoma was a great rivalry too, but this always had more of a brother-to-brother feel to it.
And yes, Nebraska is the big brother.
Hopefully, the Cornhuskers will prove that on Saturday. The Buffs have won three in a row and if Deion Sanders wins in Lincoln, I might lose the contents of my stomach.
At any rate, here’s a look at five things we learned from the win over UTEP, some takeaways, and thoughts on the O-line, plus the good, bad, and ugly.
Here’s the rest of our Nebraska Cornhuskers news roundup.
Former Nebraska football head coach finds a new job
Scott Frost was fired as the Cornhuskers’ head coach following a 16-31 record in five seasons as the head coach. There was a myriad of problems but Frost hasn’t worked in football since he was fired in 2022.
However, that changed as the Rams hired Frost as a senior analyst according to Pete Thamel of ESPN. Frost played five seasons in the NFL as a defensive back and was always known for having a bright offensive mind.
Things just didn’t work out at Nebraska. Good luck to him though and I mean that sincerely.
4-star target Christian Jones enjoys Nebraska visit
Four-star linebacker Christian Jones is one of the top recruiting targets left on the board for the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the 2025 class and he visited for the UTEP game.
Jones told Steve Wiltfong of On3.com: “They (Nebraska) want the best players in the state to come play for Nebraska. That’s the big message.”
Jones, who is also considering Miami and Oklahoma, told Wiltfong he would visit again for the Colorado game.
That’s a good sign for the Huskers, although a visit to Oklahoma for a game this fall is also expected. Still, the atmosphere on Saturday should be off the charts and a win in that game should help.
It might even be enough to seal the deal (my two cents).
Nebraska Cornhuskers keep winning in volleyball
Nebraska volleyball played two matches over the weekend and won both. The first was on Friday against Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The second-ranked Huskers swept through the match by the scores of 25-9, 25-20, and 25-15. Lindsay Krause led the way for the Huskers with 13 kills, while Andi Jackson tacked on seven. Rebekah Allick and Merritt Beason each managed six kills, while Harper Murray added five.
Bergen Reilly was stellar with 36 assists, 10 digs, four kills, three blocks, and five aces. Lexi Rodriguez also did her part with nine digs.
On Saturday, Nebraska volleyball knocked off Big-12 foe TCU by the scores of 25-15, 25-23, 23-25, and 25-13. Murray had her best game of the season with 20 kills on .302 hitting. She also had three blocks. Allick managed six kills and seven blocks, while Reilly had 43 assists and 14 digs.
Nebraska (3-0) will play SMU on the road Tuesday at 7 PM CST on the ACC Network.
