Podcast: What’s next for Nebraska Football in the transfer portal?

In our latest podcast, we update Nebraska football fans on all the latest transfer portal happenings, plus a look at 2024 recruiting.

The recruiting dead period came to an end last Friday and it was a busy first weekend for Nebraska football.

Head coach Matt Rhule made his way out West and visited five-star QB Dylan Raiola. The Nebraska football head coach posted this cool picture of a boom box and Raiola seemed to dig it. As we have said, Georgia is trending up here, but Nebraska isn’t one of this one yet.

The Huskers need to secure an official visit. Rhule is rebuilding the relationship right now and with Raiola’s uncle on staff and his father (Dominic Raiola) in the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame, there is hope. Friday seemed like a positive first step.

Latest Nebraska football transfer portal news

However, the biggest news was about the decommitment of Walter Rouse, the transfer offensive lineman who flipped to Oklahoma two days after a commitment video. It happens and I guarantee NIL is an issue (we talk about how it needs to get better).

Brett Seither just announced he was committing to Georgia Tech. He visited Nebraska over the weekend, so the transfer portal focus now shifts to Arik Gilbert and MJ Sherman.  Both are former Georgia Bulldogs. Sherman is 6-foot-2, 250 pounds, and was a former top-100 recruit who has played in every game in each of the past two seasons for UGA but mostly on special teams.

Gilbert is a former five-star who had over 300 yards receiving in his first season with LSU back in 2020. He entered the transfer portal and wound up at Georgia. However, Gilbert has had a hard time staying on the field or with one program.

Much like Zavier Betts, if Matt Rhule can land him and get his head on straight, he could be a huge contributor. Gilbert has first-round talent and Nebraska football could use that. There are rumblings that he might visit and that Sherman might too.

Those would be big additions at positions of need. So that’s something to keep an eye on and address all the latest on Nebraska football recruiting, plus more in this Monday’s podcast:
