Nebraska football fans have been waiting for Brandon Baker to schedule an official visit and he’s now done that.

For weeks, there have been rumors about Nebraska football being back in the mix for five-star offensive tackle Brandon Baker.

Baker is ranked as the No. 21 overall recruit according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-5, 285-pounder is also rated as the top offensive tackle, and landing him would be massive for Nebraska football.

There is still a long way to go before that becomes a reality. But after there wasn’t much chatter about the Huskers and Baker, until some recent social media posts, there has been talk of a visit. Now, it’s a reality according to Sean Callahan of Husker Online, who reports Baker will take an official visit on September 16th.

Does Nebraska have a shot to land Brandon Baker?

We have debated this numerous times on the Husker Big Red Youtube Channel. Our consensus was that we wouldn’t consider Nebraska football a serious contender until Baker takes his official visit.

Now that he’s coming, you have to feel better about Nebraska’s chances. Ohio State, Texas, and Georgia were the other programs to get official visits. Baker has also taken multiple trips to Oregon and the Ducks seemed like the favorite earlier this spring.

The Ducks are currently the heavy favorite still according to the On3.com prediction machine which gives them an 88-percent chance to win his commitment. Nebraska football is in third at 1.7 percent.

Baker’s recruitment is interesting because he’s visited USC a total of nine times, as well as Oregon six. But he didn’t take official visits to either program. I’m wondering if that will change in the fall. He’s from Mater Dei in California so an official visit to the Trojans might not be needed.

Overall, it’s been a hard recruitment to read. He praised Nebraska football during his two spring visits and now that he’s taking an official visit, it’s fair to call the Huskers a serious contender for his commitment.

Nebraska has done a stellar job of closing on official visits in the Matt Rhule era and we’ll see if Baker becomes Rhule’s first five-star commitment with the Huskers.
