Nebraska football was able to pick up an offensive lineman commitment for the 2025 class as three-star offensive lineman Brian Tapu committed to the program. He made the announcement late Thursday night on X.
Tapu is the 51st overall offensive tackle in the 2025 class, and the sixth overall player in his class from the state of Utah per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
It has been a wild week for the lineman. He initially committed to Oregon State on June 23. This was a bit of a surprise, given that many experts at the time predicted he would go to Nebraska. He then announced his decommitment from Oregon State on June 26.
Tapu was recruited to the Nebraska football program by offensive line coach Donovan Raiola.
What can he bring to Nebraska football?
Tapu is a much-needed get or the program and several ways. For one, the Huskers have missed out on several of their offensive lineman targets over the past couple of weeks. They needed to get a lineman for this class, and this commitment checks the boxes in that regard.
Secondly, his overall skill and size makes him an interesting prospect. He measures in at six-foot- seven, 295 pounds. He gives the program the extra height at the position, which is certainly a bonus. Tapu is extremely physical at the point of attack, and extended hands quickly as soon as the ball is snapped. He also doesn’t move his feet often, which allows for a clear pocket for the quarterback.
The lineman also can play well in both run and pass protection. He can use that physicality to immediately create running lanes, and clear space for the running back.
This is just another nice get for Raiola on the recruiting trail. The latter has been cleaning up at the offensive line position over the past year. Now, this gives him yet another player that he can develop and maximize his skill set. Development is a strength of this coaching staff on the offensive line, and this makes Nebraska football the perfect fit for all involved.
Currently, the 2025 Nebraska football recruiting class ranks 40th overall in the country per the 247Sports Team rankings. Obviously, this class is still very much coming together. However, it’s a nice start.
Many Nebraska fans were freaking out about the lack of offensive lineman and the misses on the recruiting trail. They still have work to do at the position. Nevertheless, Thursday’s commitment is certainly a step in the right direction.
