It can be hard to follow everything that’s happening in the transfer portal as it relates to Nebraska football. The offers are going out like crazy and the visitors are coming in hot too.
There were four players on campus on Wednesday and many more are coming this weekend before the recruiting dead period.
However, two transfer portal targets who already visited Nebraska football have committed elsewhere. 6-foot-8, 309-pound offensive tackle Isaiah World, a player with a $1 million price tag, chose Oregon on Wednesday night over Nebraska and Texas A&M.
That one stings but it’s not surprising. The Huskers had to be a serious player to be in the top three, but it’s hard to beat that Nike money. Oregon is also ranked No. 1 right now and has everything going for it.
The good news is that Nebraska football has two other offensive tackles on the radar, including one of the top prospects in the portal.
Shifting to wide receiver, Eric Rivers, who visited Nebraska football and had the Huskers among his top four, selected Georgia Tech as his destination. But there is cause to be optimistic about wide receiver. Dane Key, the former Kentucky wideout will visit this weekend, as will Cal transfer Nyziah Hunter.
We talked about Hunter earlier this week but the 6-foot-2 wideout is coming off a stellar redshirt freshman season for the Bears. He would add size on the outside, and a proven playmaker at the college level. He’s one of the top receivers available in the portal and would be a home-run addition.
Key is also a proven producer. He caught 47 passes for 715 yards last season for the Wildcats and his wide receivers coach last season is now coaching for the Huskers.
Some new targets emerging for Nebraska football
Landing one or both of those players would be huge. On the defensive side of the ball, EDGE continues to be a focus, but so is cornerback. Idaho cornerback Andrew Marshall visited this week. He’s one of my favorites in the portal and probably my favorite defensive target at the moment.
Marshall was a first-team All-Big Sky selection and at 6-foot, would be a terrific option to start at cornerback opposite Ceyair Wright. Another 6-foot cornerback on the radar is former UCLA starter Jaylin Davies. He started eight games for the Bruins this season and has 30 starts total over the past three. He’s got four career interceptions and 11 pass breakups.
Nebraska offered Davies on Wednesday night and it will be interesting to see if he makes it to Lincoln for a visit. This weekend will be important and hopefully, by the end of it, or soon after, the Huskers have some wide receivers, offensive tackles, and cornerbacks committed. Maybe another EDGE too.
Georgia EDGE Sam M’Pemba will visit this weekend after entering the portal. He had just 15 tackles in two seasons for the Bulldogs but the former blue-chip prospect is 6-foot-3, 250 pounds, and is another name Nebraska football fans should know.
