Nebraska football is in the mix for 2025 four-star linebacker Dawson Meritt. Meritt put the Huskers in his Top 10 on Wednesday.
He is the ninth overall linebacker in the 2025 class, and the third overall player in this class from the state of Kansas per the 247Sports rankings. He has zero Crystal Ball predictions at this time. However, he does have 24 offers on the table.
The offers include one from Nebraska football, and there will be visits by Merrit to boot. He will take a visit to Lincoln on April 13 while also stopping by for an official visit on June 14. It is certainly a positive sign, as he will get a look at the campus before the season starts.
Merritt can play well both in coverage and in terms of coming down to make a tackle. His overall pursuit is strong as well. What’s interesting here is that he can also play the edge position. When he is blocked, he can release quickly and stay involved in a play, particularly in the run game. He plays aggressively, and that certainly works in his favor as well.
Merrit has the numbers to prove it as well. he recorded 83 tackles in 12 games played as a junior last season. This included 17 tackles for loss.
A strong 2025 Nebraska Football recruiting class
Currently, the 2025 Nebraska for a recruiting class ranks 45th overall nationally with three overall commitments. The class is headlined by defensive lineman Tyson Terry, and it will undoubtedly grow. The program has done a nice job of establishing a solid base within each class, and making additions towards the summertime.
Meritt’s recruitment will be one to watch, and it will not be an easy one. Nevertheless, he would be an ideal defender for this unit, as someone who can be both versatile and physical. This coaching staff has been able to make strong impressions when they get their recruits on campus. Here’s to hoping that will be the case again.
