Nebraska football didn’t have any players invited to the 2024 NFL draft combine.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers had a player representing them in the Super Bowl on Sunday — Randy Gregory — but there won’t be any Nebraska football players at the 2024 NFL draft combine.

There were 321 invites sent out on Tuesday but none of them went to Nebraska football players. It probably shouldn’t come as a huge surprise since some of the Huskers’ best NFL prospects decided to come back to Lincoln for another season such as Ty Robinson, Nash Hutcmacher, and Isaac Gifford.

That being said, I would have thought that Quinton Newsome would get an invite. He seems like the Nebraska football player with the best chance to get drafted.

Two Huskers who could be drafted

Newsome is a 6-foot-2 185-pound cornerback who put together his best season as a Cornhusker in Tony White’s first season as defensive coordinator. He earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten after finishing with 37 tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception, a fumble recovery, and three passes defensed.

As a senior, Newsome was one of the steadiest players on the Nebraska defense and I would be shocked if he’s not at least a priority rookie free agent. However, plenty of guys that don’t get combine invites get drafted. He just needs to impress at the Nebraska Pro Day and in individual workouts with teams.

Omar Brown was the other player I thought might get invited. He performed well at the East-West Shrine Bowl but didn’t get a Senior Bowl invite.

Brown, a safety, had 51 tackles last season, including three for loss. He also notched an interception, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery for the Huskers in 2023. He’ll be another Nebraska football player to watch on draft weekend, but it feels like either player getting drafted is far from a sure thing.

Michigan had a total of 18 players invited to the NFL Combine, which is something Matt Rhule can shoot for. It might take a few years to get to double digits, but I’d be shocked if there weren’t at least five Huskers invited to the combine in 2024.

Rhule is building something and we’ll get our first true glimpse this season and having zero players invited to the combine will be a thing of the past.
