Nebraska football quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas met with the media, plus defensive coordinator Tony White is staying.

Nebraska football quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator Glenn Thomas met with the media for the first time on Monday and it was clear why Matt Rhule hired him.

Thomas is clearly excited about being on the Nebraska football staff. It’s also clear that he’s tight with Marcus Satterfield and Matt Rhule, which is going to make this transition easy.

Thomas said he and Satterfield were already having discussions about the playbook and what it could look like for next season. Beyond that, he seems to understand the job of getting two freshman quarterbacks ready to play.

Matt Rhule understands how important it is to get things right at the quarterback position. That’s why the Huskers were aggressive in landing a five-star QB in Dylan Raiola and hiring a true QB coach. Thomas has been on staff for some of Rhule’s best offensive teams and I’m excited about this pairing.

I also liked hearing about how he wants to make things “black and white” for the young quarterbacks avoiding the “gray” area. Getting Dylan Raiola ready to start against UTEP is the most important job on the team and that’s why Rhule entrusted it to Thomas, a guy he trusts completely.

Tony White is staying

Nebraska football got some good news on Monday as DeShaun Foster was announced as the new UCLA head coach. Tony White did talk to the Bruins about their opening and there was a report on Sunday that he was “gaining momentum” but that’s over now that UCLA has a head coach.

Foster is a former NFL player. He’s coached at UCLA and in the NFL. His next task will be retaining as many players on the roster as possible, which will be something to watch for Husker fans as the Bruins come to Lincoln this season for a Big Ten conference game.

Regardless of that, the best news is the Huskers are getting their exceptional DC back for another season.
