Nebraska football keeps getting reinforcements from the transfer portal with 16 commitments total at this point. It seems like more will be on the way.

However, the Huskers got more good news this week as linebacker Javin Wright was granted a waiver and decided to return for a seventh season. Wright is 6-foot-5, 230 pounds. He’s also an experienced linebacker with two starts over the past two seasons.

Wright started his career playing the nickel role in the previous defense, which was sort of a defensive back/linebacker hybrid. Wright had 34 tackles this season, one tackle for loss, and one pass breakup. In 2023, Wright saw action in all 12 games and finished with 51 tackles, two interceptions, two pass breakups, 1.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, and one forced fumble.

The Huskers have added two linebackers via the portal and two four-star linebackers from the 2025 class to go along with Vincent Shavers, Willis McGahee IV, and others. Wright will likely see his most snaps as a nickel linebacker. He will also be a nice depth piece.

You need quality depth at just about every position to get through the Big Ten season, so Wright coming back is a win for Nebraska football.

Another could be coming too.

Another Nebraska football veteran could return

DeShon Singleton was supposed to be out of eligibility but with the ruling allowing JUCO players to have another season of eligibility, Singleton should be able to come back according to Sean Callahan of Husker Online. It feels like it will happen at some point which would be huge.

Singleton started 13 games last season with 71 tackles, three pass breakups and an interception. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound defensive back hasn’t made an announcement yet. He was also slated to play in a college football all-star game, but if he returned, it would solidify the safety room and the secondary even more.
