Nebraska football commitment Carter Nelson has been named by 247 Sports as one of the biggest freaks in the 2024 class.

When it comes to athletics, it’s good to be called a freak and Nebraska football commitment, Carter Nelson, according to 247 Sports, is one of the biggest freaks in the entire 2024 recruiting class.

247 Sports put out its own list of the top 50 freaks in the 2024 class and the tight end from Ainsworth, which does just about everything for his 8-man high school football team, came in at No. 3. Here’s what was written about the top-100 prospect committed to Nebraska football:

“‘Freak.’ That’s the word a trusted SEC assistant coach used to describe Carter Nelson in April before his recruiting stock really exploded. Nelson might play eight-man football, but there’s a reason the tiny no-stoplight town of Ainsworth, Nebraska, became a destination for some of college football’s best during the spring evaluation period — and that’s because Nelson has unheard of track and field numbers for someone who’s a verified 6-foot-4, 215 pounds.”

In some ways, people don’t realize just the kind of freak athletic Nelson is. According to 247 Sports, his 7-foot high jump, which broke a 30-year record, is the highest of any college football recruit in 2024. He also pole vaults over 14 feet and runs the 100-meter dash in 11.05 at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds. He also throws the shot put over 52 feet, so you can see why Georgia, Notre Dame, and others hoped to steal him away from Nebraska football.

Nelson will have to make the adjustment from 8-man football, which won’t be an easy one. However, his athleticism/skill set isn’t something you can teach and I have confidence that he’ll play early and often at Nebraska.

He’s the gem of Matt Rhule’s first full recruiting class for a reason and I can’t wait to see him in a Huskers uniform.
