Believe it or not, Nebraska basketball isn’t out of the NCAA tournament picture just yet. The Huskers are 7-11 in the Big Ten. They are also 17-12 overall.

But, Nebraska basketball also has six quadrant-1 wins, a bunch of wins on the road, and a program-record four wins over AP Top 25 teams.

It’s been an up-and-down season. When Nebraska basketball has been at its best, it looks like one of the best teams in the Big Ten.

It also has stretches where it looks like one of the worst, which just so happens to be the product in the last five games. Nebraska has lost four of five games, and in the one game they won, they trailed by 22 points.

That’s not finishing strong. Yet, the Huskers are still in the latest Bracketology projection from ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, who has Nebraska basketball among the last four teams in.

Bracket Matrix, which has 87 brackets tracked in the latest update, has Nebraska in 63 of those. The average seed is 11.11, so Fred Hoiberg’s team is barely in the field, if they are at all, in most projections.

What happens in the last two games of the regular season will determine Nebraska’s fate. They play at Ohio State on Tuesday, another bubble team. If Nebraska wins that game, the home game against Iowa, and then the first game of the Big Ten tournament, it will be in the field of 68.

If Nebraska ends the regular season 1-1, the Huskers will make the Big Ten tournament but would be 8-12 in league play. I’d say they would need to at least make the semifinals or maybe even the championship game to get an at-large berth.

I know it’s hard to have hope for Nebraska fans, but the season isn’t over yet. Lose the next two games, it might be.
