The recruitment of Brian Tapu has been all over the place. After visiting to Nebraska football in June, Tapu visited Oregon State and quickly committed to the Beavers that same weekend.

This came after a number of recruiting experts projected him to commit to the Huskers. Then, after just a few days, Tapu decommitted from Oregon State and flipped his commitment to Nebraska football.

It made sense. For one, Oregon State is basically without a conference, while the Huskers play in the Big Ten. Regardless of why, Nebraska was able to land the 6-foot-7, 295-pound offensive tackle who has a bright future at the position. He’s ranked No. 683 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Tapu is the ninth highest-ranked commitment in a class of 16 so far for the Huskers. He’s also a key piece at offensive tackle. Shawn Hammerbeck, a 6-foot-6 offensive tackle out of South Dakota also committed recently, but it feels like the Huskers want at least two offensive tackles.

They are still pushing for five-star David Sanders, who is going to take more visits at the end of the month and could be back in Lincoln. At the same time the Huskers are pushing to land Sanders, Washington, one of the four newest members of the Big Ten extended a scholarship offer to Tapu, which was posted on his X account.

Nebraska coaches aren’t a big fan of committed recruits posting offers from other schools. Tapu is especially interesting because he flip-flopped before. Could it happen again?

It wouldn’t be the biggest shock in the world. Some have speculated it could be a good sign with Sanders but I don’t see the two being connected. Tapu is a recruit with high upside and now the Huskers find themselves guarding against a flip.
