Early National Signing Day has come and gone for Nebraska football. It was a good day for the Huskers as they flipped Cortez Mills from Oklahoma and held off Missouri for Jeremiah Jones.

For those that didn’t catch it, Jones signed with Nebraska football to play wide receiver, which gives the Huskers three blue-chip wideouts in the 2025 class, along with Jackson Carpenter.

There was hope Nebraska could land five-star Michael Terry, but flipping Mills, who is ranked 113th overall in the 2025 class (247 Sports composite rankings) was good enough for me.

It wasn’t the only news of the day for the Nebraska Cornhuskers though. Another player has departed via the transfer portal and that’s defensive lineman, Kai Wallin. It’s not surprising given that we know Terrance Knighton is leaving. It was unclear a couple of days ago.

Wallin is the ninth Nebraska football player to enter the portal this week. He probably won’t be the last. Wallin played in 11 games this season with four tackles, 0.5 sacks, and 0.5 tackles for loss.

Coaching staff changes

As alluded to, Knighton has left according to a report from Sean Callahan. Sounds like he will follow Tony White to Florida State.

Yet, Nebraska football did make it official with the new wide receivers coach Daikel Shorts. Shorts played for Dana Holgorsen at West Virginia and coached under him with the Mountaineers, and with Houston.

Shorts joined Kentucky’s staff before the 2024 season, so he has spent the last four seasons as a full-time wide receivers coach and has mentored players like Tank Dell.

Garett McGuire is still reportedly on staff, possibly as an analyst. You can have more off-field assistants coaching now, plus he was an asset on the recruiting trail.

Nebraska Cornhuskers crush Big Ten Volleyball honors

Nebraska volleyball, the co-Big Ten champions had five First-Team All-Big Ten Selections this week as Lexi Rodgriguez, Bergen Reilly, Andi Jackson, Harper Murray, and Merritt Beason were all named First-Team selections on Wednesday.

Sarah Franklin of Wisconsin won Big Ten Player of the Year. Yet, Reilly won Big Ten Setter of the Year. Rodriguez also took the Libero of the Year award, making it the second year in a row that Reilly and Rodriguez won their respective awards.

Nebraska will open the NCAA volleyball tournament on Friday night.
