Nebraska basketball: Things still up in the air with Pryce Sandfort

Nebraska basketball hosted Pyrce Sandfort this week but there hasn’t been much movement in his recruitment.

Nebraska basketball has been active in the transfer portal. The Huskers have cast a wide net in terms of targets, and that’s out of necessity.

Most teams are looking for players out of the portal, even teams still in the NCAA tournament, so Nebraska basketball has lots of competition for every player.

So far, it’s been hard for the Huskers to gain traction. We highlighted a couple of early misses or at least players that seemed to be trending in another direction, such as Jalen Jackson, who is a dynamic guard who had a connection to Nebraska basketball through Connor Essegian.

It will take some work and some excellent scouting to find a better transfer portal class than last season’s, which proved to be a disappointment. Nebraska will need to do a better job, especially since it has to replace both Brice Williams and Juwan Gary.

Pryce Sandfort would be an ideal fit. He averaged 8.8 points and 2.9 rebounds last season for Iowa while shooting 40 percent from 3-point range. The Huskers hosted him on Wednesday, but according to Robin Washut of Husker Online, there wasn’t much to report.

Nebraska basketball is among the teams still in the mix. However, Washut reported that Sandfort will visit Illinois after his stop in Lincoln. Iowa is also pushing to keep Sandfort with Iowa, where his brother played.

Illinois hasn’t lost many transfer portal recruitments to teams like Nebraska and Iowa worries me. I honestly don’t feel that optimistic. I could be wrong, and hopefully I am because Nebraska needs shooting and Sandfort can provide it at an elite level.
