If Nebraska football isn’t worried about the commitment of four-star cornerback CJ Bronaugh in the 2026 class, it should be.
Bronaugh has been committed to the Huskers since November. He’s also their top-ranked recruit after flying up the recruiting rankings recently.
It’s easy to understand why. I wrote that Bronaugh was underrated when he committed. The kid is 6-foot-1, runs the 100-meter dash in 10.3, and had six interceptions last season playing in Florida.
Bronaugh has got everything you’d want in a cornerback. I was surprised at his ranking, but sometimes, it takes the recruiting rankings time to catch up.
Now, the problem is that rival programs have noticed what Bronaugh can do and are trying to flip his commitment.
Nebraska football needs to guard against a flip
Bill Belichick, who knows a thing or two about good defensive backs, extended an offer on Tuesday for Bronaugh to join North Carolina. Oregon also offered recently. According to Steve Wiltfong of On3.com, Bronaugh will visit the Tar Heels, along with Clemson, Florida State, Florida, and Syracuse. There has been chatter about an Oregon visit, too.
Penn State is also making a push and has an official visit locked in for June. Nebraska football will host the blue-chip cornerback for an official visit in June, too, so not all hope is lost, but the Clemson visit concerns me.
Not because the Tigers are that big a threat, but because Clemson usually doesn’t host players who are committed to other programs. Maybe they have changed their thinking. Dabo Swinney has tried to adapt to the times, but maybe that says something about Bronaugh’s commitment.
Bronaugh is a Nebraska commit for now, but Matt Rhule and company have their work cut out for them to keep it that way.
