Nebraska football is into the second week of fall camp. The Huskers will hold a scrimmage on Saturday, which could go a long way toward finalizing the Week 1 depth chart.

It’s hard to know if there will be another fall scrimmage. Nebraska football opens the season against Ohio, just three weeks from Saturday. 23 days away.

We were treated to an open practice earlier this week. It was clear that the linebackers are going to be a strength. Dexter Foster appears to have overtaken Vincent Shavers for the second starting job. Owen Chambliss is a stud, and Dawson Merritt should make a bigger impact this season.

Foster might be the most underrated transfer on the team. He played only seven games last season and is a true junior, like Shavers, meaning both players have three years left to play. Regardless of who starts, all three will play significant snaps this season.

The secondary is solid. The defensive line looks much improved, but the linebacker room is loaded. Speaking of the secondary, Victor Evans keeps getting more buzz about starting opposite Andrew Marshall. Jeremiah Charles has gotten plenty of praise, too. Don’t forget about five-star freshman Danny Odem. I doubt that he will start, but don’t be surprised to see him play early.

Nebraska football will host its scrimmage on Saturday. The volleyball team will have a scrimmage on Sunday, too,  broadcast on Nebraska Public Media.

Nebraska eyes a flip attempt in 2028, as multiple targets schedule visits

Deonte Flemings, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound cornerback out of Erie, Pennsylvania, who is committed to the Penn State Nittany Lions in the 2028 class (No. 113 overall), is going to take a visit to see the Nebraska football program this fall, according to Tim Verghese.

Nebraska is one of five teams trying to flip the blue-chip cornerback in the 2028 class. Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and Tennessee are the others. The Huskers do have the visit scheduled already, though, and we know about Matt Rhule’s ties to Pennsylvania.

The Huskers just beat out Penn State for a highly regarded recruit in the state of Pennsylvania, Khalil Taylor; maybe Rhule and company can do it again.

Elijah Willis, a three-star lineman from Michigan who has played OT, IOL, and DT, is high on Nebraska’s list in the 2028 class. He’s 6-foot-3, 280 pounds, and is ranked No. 474 overall in the 2028 class. According to Verghese, Nebraska is standing out early in this recruitment.

The Huskers already have one elite defensive lineman coming to visit this fall, and another ranked in the top-200 overall, Zylen Little (No. 183 overall), is also coming for a Gameday visit (Verghese).

Little, who is 6-foot-2 and 290 pounds, is an absolute force. Out of Tampa, he finished last season with 30 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. No wonder Corey Brown, the Nebraska DT coach, is “high on him.”
