At least one transfer commitment coming for Nebraska basketball

Nebraska basketball has at least one transfer portal commitment in the works, but there could be more.

Former Boston College big man Boden Kapke visited Nebraska basketball earlier this week, and after two experts have projected him to commit to the Huskers, it feels like only a matter of time before things become official.

The 6-foot-10 junior will have one season left to play. He spent his first two seasons playing for Butler, but made 18 starts in 2025-26 for the Eagles and scored in double figures 17 times.

Kapke averaged 10.6 points per game to go along with 5.7 rebounds. He shot 55.7 percent on 2-pointers and 33 percent on 3-point attempts. The big man has 54 career 3-point field goals, with a 31.8 percentage. He’s also 55 percent on twos for his career.

Defensively, Kapke isn’t super impactful. However, he’s a smart defender, with decent movement skills, and he’s competent on the boards. That should allow him to function as well as say Rienk Mast in the Nebraska defense.

Nebraska basketball still has needs to fill in the portal

Looking at the roster, there is a void of low-post scoring. Nebraska is hoping Drew Fielder, the former Boise State center, will help fill it. Yet, after a visit to Washington, it’s unclear what he will do. Kapke, who started part-time last season, is capable of being the starter or coming off the bench.

Either way, he’s a perfect fit for what Fred Hoiberg wants to do. Kapke should get some really good looks next season, especially in the ball-screen game. Him and Sam Orme both specialize in the pick-and-pop, and the Huskers were a really good pick-and-pop team last season. They always have been.

Nebraska has five open spots. They are after guards Trevan Leonhardt, who is also considering Arizona State, Ty’Reek Coleman, who also has other visits this week (Iowa, Kansas State, Iowa State) and Ice Emery, the Sixth Man of the Year in the Horizon League.

Nebraska needs two guards and probably two more bigs. Kapke will be one. Hopefully, another will follow soon.
