Nebraska still exploring transfer portal help for pass rush

Nebraska football could still add a pass rusher from the transfer portal in former Missouri State EDGE DJ Wesolak.

The transfer portal is closed in terms of players being able to enter. But that doesn’t mean it’s completely closed for business, as players who entered the portal are still trying to find homes. One of those players is a former Nebraska football recruiting target, DJ Wesolak.

Nebraska offered Wesloak, a 6-foot-4, 255-pound pass rusher coming out of high school. As a four-star recruit, he signed with Missouri before eventually transferring to Missouri State, which is where he played last season.

Wesolak was part of Missouri’s 2022 recruiting class and played five games as a freshman. He didn’t see any action in 2023, before playing just two games for Oregon State in 2024. That led him to transfer to Missouri State, where he had 38 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and four sacks last season, to go along with two passes defended.

Nebraska football still interested in transfer portal pass rusher

Wesolak entered the portal in January. He’s still one of the top players available in the portal, and according to Pete Nakos of On3.com, Nebraska football is still one of the programs showing interest, along with Vanderbilt and Rutgers. Some Group of Six programs are interested, too.

Wesolak has production at the G6 level. The Huskers added Anthony Jones and Jashear Whittington to upgrade the pass rush, but another EDGE wouldn’t be a bad thing, especially someone who had 4.5 sacks last season, even in Conference USA.

Now that spring ball has wrapped up, we’ll see if Nebraska makes a move or not. The pass rush was hard to judge on Saturday. Contact wasn’t live on quarterbacks, and Jones wasn’t on the field because his wife just gave birth.

The pass rush, especially on the edge, left something to be desired. Maybe that will mean Wesolak winds up playing for Nebraska, fours year after the original offer.
