There is palpable buzz for Nebraska football recruiting. The Huskers landed a four-star wide receiver commitment on Monday, and it feels like that might be just the start.

Tay Ellis was the commitment Monday. He’s a dynamic wideout from Texas, who is the fourth blue-chip commitment for the Huskers already in the 2027 class.

Two of those commitments are ranked in the top 60 overall. Nebraska football’s class is ranked third, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

There is a long way to go before Signing Day in 2027. However, the Huskers could be adding another commitment to the class before long, from four-star running back Amir Brown out of Charlotte. He’s ranked No. 326 overall in the 2027 class.

Nebraska football is also in the “lead” in the recruitment of five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound tight end is ranked 16th overall in the 2027 class. He was very impressed with his recent visit. He’s been posting a ton of positive Nebraska stuff on social media.

Yet, Bryan Munson of Husker Online wrote that a commitment won’t come until July after official visits. Nebraska is leading, via Munson, but Hudson is from Louisiana, so the head coaching hire of LSU could have an impact on his decision.

Still, Nebraska is in a great spot.

The Huskers also made the top five for elite cornerback Juju Johnson, who ranks 36th overall in the 2027 class. Nebraska is a finalist along with Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Arizona State. The Rivals prediction machine favors Nebraska football and gives the Huskers a 57-percent chance to land his commitment.

Nebraska football misses on 2026 target

In terms of improving the 2026 class, the Huskers are working on it. They have tried to flip numerous recruits this fall, but they just haven’t been successful.

One of those was Tedarius Hughes. The four-star defensive back committed to Florida State was an ideal flip candidate. It seemed clear that he wasn’t going to sign with Florida State.

Yet, after announcing a commitment to Syracuse on Tuesday, he won’t be signing with Nebraska either.
