Following a 3-1 win over Maryland on Saturday (25-27, 25-14, 25-8, 25-12) the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team won a share of the Big Ten championship for the second year in a row.
The Huskers had a chance to clinch the title outright with two wins this weekend but Nebraska volleyball suffered a 3-1 defeat Friday. That allowed the Nittany Lions to clinch at least a share of the Big Ten championship.
Nebraska volleyball still had to do its part on the road against Maryland on Saturday night.
The Terps started fast and won the first set. However, the Cornhuskers dominated after that, led by senior Merritt Beason who notched 19 kills and 10 blocks, while hitting .471. Rebekah Allick was also a force at the net with 11 blocks and six kills. Bergen Reilly added 43 assists and 14 digs; Harper Murray pitched in with 16 kills.
Nebraska volleyball finished the season with a 28-2 record. They were 19-1 in the Big Ten and should get a No. 1 seed in the NCAA volleyball tournament selection show on Sunday evening.
After a stellar regular season, the run to the national championship starts this week.
Nebraska football recruiting buzz: Flip intel
The Nebraska football loss to Iowa on Friday night flat-out sucked, but Cornhuskers fans should feel good about the fact that Steve Wiltfong and some other recruiting experts have projected dynamic wideout Cortez Mills who is ranked 113th overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings to flip to the Cornhuskers.
Mills took an official visit during the Nebraska football spring game and has been back during the season. Heās currently committed to Oklahoma, but a flip feels inevitable at this point.
Nebraska football was hoping it would be able to flip Chase Loftin, the 6-foot-6, four-star tight end from Omaha. Heās committed to Florida State but the Noles are fresh off a 1-11 season. Loftin told Wiltfong of On3.com this weekend that heās still undecided. He did call FSU the āfrontrunner.ā
Early Signing Day is this week, but if Nebraska football could add Mills, Loftin, and maybe even five-star Michael Terry, who was rocking Nebraska gloves on Friday night, it would be one hell of a pick-me-up.
